History
On February 9th, 1958, Amrita Singh was born to a Muslim mother and a Sikh father. Her father, Shivinder Singh Virk, was an army officer, and her mother, Rukhsana Sultana, was a political associate of Sanjay Gandhi at the time of the National Emergency in India from 1975-76. Not many people know this, but Amrita Singh is also the great-niece of the renowned novelist late Khushwant Singh. She completed her education at Modern School in Delhi.
Acting Career
Amrita Singh made her debut in Bollywood with the film Betaab in 1993, starring alongside Sunny Deol. This romantic drama was a huge success; the following years were golden for Amrita Singh, which is when she rose to fame. Amrita Singh met Saif Ali Khan, also a Bollywood actor, at the muhurat shot of the film Bekhudi, and the couple fell in love and got married in October 1991; however, they got separated in the year 2004. Together they have a daughter, Sara Ali Khan, who is also an actress, and a son Ibrahim Khan, who is set to make his debut in Bollywood soon.
