India is a land of festivals where each month, Indians celebrate a festival with the utmost happiness and enthusiasm. One such festival which is celebrated across the country is Raksha Bandhan. This festival celebrates the unique bond of brothers and sisters.

Every relationship is special in its way, out of which the link of brother-sister is also unique and worthy of celebrating. As Rakshabandhan is around the corner, let’s look at everything that makes the brother-sister bond so special and sweet. Below is the truth that defines the brother and sister relationships:

1. A love-hate bond

The bond that brothers and sisters share is a crazy blend of love and hate. Often brothers and sisters fight with each other over silly things, such as who gets to eat the last piece of a cake or the TV remote to watch TV, etc., but they also love each other very much.

Siblings even behave like they despise each other, but they also support each other when one of them gets scolded by their parents. On Raksha Bandhan, siblings keep their bantering aside to get the best rakhi gifts for brothers and sisters that depict their love and care for each other. Even if they don’t want to admit they care and love for each other, deep in their hearts, their love is a million times more than they let it show.

2. Biggest supporters of each other

Pillars of support and strength are the things that also describe the brother and sister relationship. Whenever a brother or a sister feels down, unmotivated, or upset, their siblings always encourage and cheer for them.

Through ups and downs, brothers and sisters support each other from childhood to adulthood, throughout their life. Even if the siblings are far apart, they always have time for each other to provide guidance and words of support and encouragement.

3. Share countless childhood memories

Siblings are like best friends who share the same blood. They have spent years together in so many family functions, festivals, outings, picnics, etc., so they have so many sweet memories to share. There are countless memories, from playing their favorite video games to watching the same cartoon show together, sharing snacks, and more. And after growing up, the brothers and sisters meet up and are reminded of such fond memories of childhood. Such memories can never be forgotten or replaced.

4. Each other’s secret keeper

One of the unique things about the brother and sister relationship is that even though they share a love-hate relationship, they are also each other’s secret keepers. Siblings would spill fun or embarrassing secrets like their crushes or who broke a showpiece in the living room, and the other would promise to keep these a secret. But they would also blackmail their siblings into doing things for them, and of course, no matter how much they would scare their brothers or sisters about telling their secrets, they always kept it a top secret.

5. Each other’s protectors

Siblings are also very protective of each other, even when they don’t show it, but they are. Even in school, one sibling would get into a fight or be in trouble, and their brother or sister would always come to their rescue with a will to fight back. Even at home, if the parents would scold the little sibling, the elder one would defend their siblings to their parents. This goes to show that no matter what happens, the siblings always have each other’s back at all times.

There’s no relationship between a brother and sister in the world where they don’t tease each other. When one of the siblings would get scolded by their parents, the younger siblings would support them but, later on, also tease them about the same. The older siblings tease the younger ones by saying they were adopted or picked up from a garbage dumpster. Such crazy teasing and pulling pranks on each other that they would learn from school defines the quirky but lovely bond the brothers and sisters share.

7. Sisters as mother figures

A big sister always has a motherly side toward their younger siblings. While their parents are away, she always takes care of her siblings and protects them from difficulties. She even treats them by cooking something delicious for them. Big sisters love their little brothers and sisters unconditionally and are always there for support and blessings.

8. Brothers as father figures

Brothers are also like father figures for their little siblings, helping them in times of need and showering them with love always. Even though the brothers don’t express their love for their siblings, they still convey it via actions of love and care. They are always ready to protect and fight for their siblings.

9. Siblings learn from each other

One of the facets of brother and sister relationship is learning from each other. Elder siblings sometimes help their younger brothers or sisters in their studies by teaching them new concepts or helping them solve their math problems. Apart from academics, they also impart life lessons to their younger siblings, such as what to do in difficult situation in life or during failures, etc. After parents the best teachers of life are the elder siblings.

10. An eternal bond

When siblings grow older and move out to other cities due to jobs, education, or marriage, this doesn’t break their bond. The link they share is eternal and unbreakable. No stretch of distance or any kind of barrier can set them apart. Even if they have families of their own, brothers and sisters still share a lovely bond and are always a call away from each other for love and support. Their physical distance only strengthens their bond.

They also share a special bond and always look after each other and are there for each other through the different phases of life. Such bonds are honored by tying rakhi and giving gifts to each other. In fact, the early legends associated with Raksha Bandhan even suggest that earlier, this festival was celebrated by people who were not even related by blood, such as the story of Lord Krishna and Draupadi, Roxanne and King Porus, Demon King Bali, and Goddess Lakshmi.

Indeed the relationship between a brother and sister is a unique one. In India, this bond is celebrated with a unique rakhi-tying ritual called Raksha Bandhan and also Bhai Dooj.
